Students at Plume Mill Road Campus raise £68.33 for Help for Heroes

The sun may have been obscured by fluffy white clouds, however, that did not deter students from the Plume Mill Road campus for digging deep and raising £68.33 on the Bakerthon for the Dynamic Duo's London to Paris sponsored bike ride.

Cookies and biscuits with jelly snakes; chocolate and apple cake - all went down a treat.

Thank you to all staff, teachers and students for their support - and Mr Applewhite - we will be back next half term with another sumptuous batch of tempting delights...............  keep following the blog for details!

Scott Graham becomes Patron
to The Dynamic Duo

Frantic Assembly produces thrilling, energetic and uncompromising theatre. The company makes work that reflects contemporary culture and attracts new audiences. In collaboration with a wide variety of artists, Frantic Assembly's Artistic Directors - Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett - create new work that places equal emphasis on movement, design, music and text. Since its formation in 1994 Frantic Assembly has toured extensively throughout the UK and internationally, building its reputation as one of the country's most exciting companies. In addition to its productions Frantic Assembly runs an extensive Creative Learning and Training Programme working with over 5,000 participants a year. Recent work includes Othello, Stockholm and pool (no water).

‘14 years of producing superb physical theatre’ The Guardian

Lyndon March and Connor Mayes have both been inspired by Frantic Assembly’s work on stage. The boys have also worked more closely with the company through its Ignition project, a national initiative developing new ways of increasing young men’s involvement in the arts. Connor went on to perform with the Ignition Theatre Company in The Fear, a highly energetic and thought provoking production at Toynbee Theatre in 2009.

Scott Graham is co-founder and Artistic Director of Frantic Assembly. For Frantic, Scott has co-directed Othello (TMA award – Best Direction), Stockholm, pool (no water), Dirty Wonderland, Rabbit, Peepshow and Underworld. Director/performer credits include Hymns, Tiny Dynamite, On Blindness, Heavenly, Sell Out, Zero, Flesh, Klub and Look Back In Anger. Scott Graham’s other directing credits include: Home (National Theatre of Scotland) Ker-ching (Sixth Sense), It’s A Long Road (Polka Theatre) and Up on the Roof (Polka Theatre). Scott has also provided choreography and movement direction for Cinderella (Unicorn Theatre), Frankenstein (Royal and Dergnate); The May Queen (Liverpool Everyman); Hothouse and Market Boy (National Theatre); Villette (Stephen Joseph Theatre); Vs (Karim Tonsi Dance Company, Cairo); Improper (Bare Bones Dance Company); Dazzling Medusa and A Bear Called Paddington (Polka) and Stuart Little (No 1 tour). With Steven Hoggett and Bryony Lavery, Scott created It Snows, a National Theatre Connections play for 2008. With Steven Hoggett, Scott has written The Frantic Assembly Book of Devising Theatre (Routledge).

The Dynamic Duo
Theatre Skills Weeks 2010

ACTiv8 Theatre Skills Weeks will focus on creating a strong and supportive company dynamic, in which all can flourish. Students will learn the skills and crafts of an actor, through encouraging a good ensemble atmosphere - essential in a professional theatre company. ACTiv8 gives its company members the skills with which to make exciting, innovative and truthful theatre. Students will explore advanced acting techniques, including Stanislavski, improvisation, clowning and stage combat, whilst playing theatre games and building a good company spirit. The emphasis is on learning an actor's craft, whilst also having fun!

Group 2 (School year groups 11+)

Tue 6 - Fri 9 April 10.00am - 4.00pm

Work with a professional director to create your own piece of theatre in a week! Last year's Director was Emma Earle, whose production of a new play 'Ernest and the Pale Moon' was nominated for the 2009 Total Theatre Award. Who might you get to work with this time...?!

ACTiv8 is the youth theatre group of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. If you are 7 - 18 years old and looking for a term-time or holiday theatre skills experience, ACTiv8 is for you!

Course content varies with age. Exercises range from fun team-building games to more advance sessions in improvisation through to lessons in acting techniques and stage combat.

Whatever your age, you will:
Act
Create characters
Devise scenes
Develop your imagination
Grow in confidence
Meet new people
Have a great time!

ACTiv8 students are provided with a creative, supportive and playful environment in which to develop their skills. Sessions explore different approaches to making theatre. Each week, ACTiv8 students play warm up games, explore exercises that encourage collaboration and develop their acting technique.

ACTiv8 is managed by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School Graduates, Jim Rastall and Phil Sarson, whose company Troupers also runs courses in London and Leeds. Classes are led by trained actors and directors from the School and all tutors have enhanced CRB clearance.

Held at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, 2 Downside Road, Clifton, Bristol BS8 2XF.
