Plume School : Safety Alert - Facebook

8 September 2010 - 14.45pm

To all Parents/Carers

The following alert was received from a neighbouring school. It has been checked thoroughly by our Child Protection Officer and is a genuine alert. The same message has been emailed to all students today and a link will  be placed on our school website.

Facebook have launched a new application - Facebook Places.  When it is enabled, anyone can find out where you are when you are logged in. It gives the actual address & map location of where you are as you use Facebook.

This is very dangerous information and it is recommended that you do not provide this information. You are enabled automatically without being told so it is really important to disable this immediately so that people on Facebook can’t see where you are all the time.

TO UNDO:

Go to Profile->Privacy>Edit your privacy settings->Custom->Customise settings and then change - Things I Share-: uncheck 'Include me in People Here now' and also disable 'Friends can check me in to places'.

PLEASE make sure you disable this as soon as you can.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE DO NOT REPLY

Please do not reply directly to this email as it comes to ParentMail, and NOT the school! Email replies should be directed to the main school email address, unless they are intended for ParentMail. (Due to the volume of emails, ParentMail cannot forward messages on to schools from parents).

All 'attachments' sent by schools are created and sent 'within school' and will have been checked for viruses.
ParentMail DOES NOT check attachments for viruses and therefore accepts no responsibility for them.
